Melville taking Center Stage in Corporate World
Melville is a long island-based hamlet, which houses a small community. Despite being small, this place has already become the center of the corporate world. The community found in the Suffolk County, Town of Huntington, New York has already attracted a share of headquarters both for regional and corporate businesses.

Melville History
Melville, New York is found in the town of Huntington as a census-designated hamlet. In 1653, three men from Oyster Bay purchased the town as a portion of the ‘The First Purchase’.
This town was known as Sunsquams to the Native Americans, who were the first to inhabit the place. In the 17th century, the town has been named after a local resident – Samuel Ketcham’s Valley. Later, this name was then replaced as Sweet Hollow. In 1854, this name was then again replaced and is now called Melville.
In 1829, the Presbyterian Church was built at Sweet Hollow and Old Country Roads’ corner. This church was moved to the west for 1 mile in 1977. The church was used continuously until 1930. In 1944, the church was reopened for Edward Baylis’ funeral. Since this reopening, the church was used once again.
There was a trolley line established to Huntington in 1909. This serves as the extension of the Huntington Trolley Spur. This time, it went far reaching the Amityville from the east. It is also connected to the Babylon. It has fare zones that are six in total. The Duryea Farm at Melville is one of those fare zones. After a decade of operation, this line was shut down due to the complaints of the farmers regarding its noise. After the line closed, the transportation means was provided by the buses.
The Northern State Parkway Bridge was replaced over Route 110 in May 2011. The bridge was 63 years old then.
Melville Local Area Information
Melville houses different attractions such as the West Hills County Park, Adventure Land Amusement Park, Walt Whitman Birthplace, Pine Ridge Conservation Area and Jayne’s Hill, the highest point on Long Island. There is also a variety of recreational activities that can be enjoyed in this town by both the local residents and the visitors. Colonial Springs Golf Club and The Greens at Half Hollow offers a great facility that can be enjoyed by the golfers. For those who love to learn about the history of the town, the Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site will be ideal to visit.
The place is also full of restaurants you can choose from to have your meal and the place also have its share of boutique shops that you can visit for your shopping spree.
The School
Two school serves this district: South Huntington Union Free School District and Half Hollow Hills Central School District.
For higher education, there are also institutes found in the town such as State University of New York, (SUNY) Farmingdale State College and Five Towns College.
